EV charger with solar panels
Have solar panels and an electric car, or thinking of getting one? Charging the car during sunny hours uses the energy your system produces. We help connect the charger to your solar system and your home, within what they allow.

What charging with solar means
In practice, the charger uses energy from the panels when there's surplus production, and from the grid when there isn't. Some chargers adjust their power to the solar output; others can be scheduled for sunny hours. How much of the charging comes from the panels depends on production, the home's consumption and when the car is at home. We don't give figures without knowing the system.
What decides the set-up
- The home's wiring and consumer unit: a charger is a big load and needs its own circuit.
- The contracted power: it may need adjusting, or the charging scheduled so it stays under the limit.
- The inverter and monitoring: some chargers talk to the inverter to use the solar output.
- The location: garage, outside wall or parking space, and the distance to the consumer unit.
If you already have a charger, we check whether it can work with the solar system instead of replacing it.
With a battery, now or later
A battery can store daytime energy to charge the car at night, but a home battery holds little compared with what a car needs. We tell you whether it makes sense in your case. If the idea is to produce more for the car, see system expansion; to schedule consumption, see monitoring.
What helps us to know
The brand and model of the inverter, your contracted power (it's on the bill), where you park the car and the model of the car or charger, if you have one. If you don't know some of this, describe what you know and we'll fill in the rest in the assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Can I charge the car on solar alone?
Partly: during sunny hours, when there's surplus production. At night or on days with little production, charging uses the grid or the battery, if you have one.
Do I need to increase my contracted power?
It depends on your current power, the home's consumption and the charger. Some chargers adjust their power so you stay under the limit. We look at it in the assessment.
I already have a charger. Will it do?
It might. Give the brand and model in your request: we tell you whether it can work with the solar system or what would need to change.
