Battery for an existing solar system
Want to store the energy your panels make during the day? Many systems can take a battery without changing everything. What's possible depends mostly on the inverter you already have, so that's where we start.

What a battery adds
A battery stores the energy your home doesn't use at the moment it's produced, so you can use it later, for example in the evening. Without a battery, that energy goes to the grid. How much more of it you use at home depends on your consumption, the battery and the system; we don't give figures without knowing it.
First, the inverter
Not every inverter takes a battery the same way. There are three common cases:
- Hybrid inverter: as a rule, it's ready to connect a compatible battery.
- Grid-only inverter: it may be possible to add the battery with its own battery inverter, or it may be worth switching to a hybrid inverter.
- Old or faulty inverter: it may be time to think about replacing it before adding the battery.
In the assessment we check the brand, model and wiring of what you have and tell you which case is yours.
A battery isn't the same as backup
A battery can store energy and the home can still lose power in a cut. To have power during cuts, the inverter needs a backup output and the system has to be wired for it. If that's what you're after, say so in your request; if you already have a battery and the lights went out, see backup that failed in a cut.
What helps us to know
The brand and model of the inverter, how many panels you have, how long ago the system was installed and where the battery could go (garage, storeroom, outside wall). Your electricity bills help us understand the home's consumption. If you don't know some of this, describe what you know and we'll fill in the rest in the assessment.
How we handle your request
We reply within 48 h. We assess the system, remotely and with a site visit if needed, and send a written quote with the price stated before you go ahead. The decision is yours, with no obligation.
Frequently asked questions
Is the battery compatible with my inverter?
It depends on the inverter and the battery. Give the brand and model of the inverter in your request; in the quote we tell you what's compatible and what would need to change.
What size of battery do I need?
It depends on the home's consumption, what the panels produce and what you want from the battery. We only suggest a capacity after assessing the system.
With a battery, will I have power in a cut?
Only if the inverter has a backup output and the system is wired for it. In the assessment we tell you whether that's possible in your case.
Can I add the battery later?
In many cases, yes. If you're replacing the inverter, choosing a hybrid leaves the system ready for a battery whenever you decide.
