Switching to a hybrid inverter

A hybrid inverter does the job of a normal inverter and also manages a battery. If your inverter is near the end of its life, keeps failing or won't take a battery, switching to a hybrid can get the system ready for what comes next.

What's included

  • A look at your case

Remotely, plus a site visit if it's needed.

  • A written quote

With the price, before any work starts.

  • Only with your go-ahead

It's your call: we only go ahead when you say yes.

What changes with a hybrid inverter

  • It converts the panels' energy for the home, like your current inverter.
  • It charges and discharges a compatible battery, connected now or later.
  • Many models have a backup output for essential circuits in a cut, if the system is wired for it.
  • It shows production, consumption and battery status in an app.

Not all hybrids are alike: power, number of phases and compatible batteries vary from model to model.

When switching makes sense

A hybrid is worth considering when your current inverter reaches the end of its life, when faults keep coming back, or when you want to add a battery and the inverter won't allow it. If the inverter is still sound and failed once, a repair may be enough; we'll tell you that straight.

What we check before proposing

  • The panels you already have: how many and how they're wired, to choose a compatible inverter.
  • The grid connection: single-phase or three-phase.
  • The battery you have or want, to confirm it works with the new inverter.
  • Where the inverter goes and how it connects to the consumer unit, including backup if you want it.

Replacing an inverter may involve notifications or other steps under the rules for solar installations; in the quote we explain what applies to your case. If you only want to swap the unit, see inverter replacement.

How we handle your request

Tell us the brand and model of your current inverter and what you want from the system. We reply within 48 h, assess your case and send a written quote with the price stated before you go ahead. The decision is yours.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to buy the battery straight away?

No. You can fit the hybrid inverter now and add the battery later, as long as you choose a compatible one.

Will a hybrid inverter give me backup in a cut?

Only if the model has a backup output, there's a battery and the system is wired for it. We tell you in the quote whether it's possible in your case.

Can I keep the panels I have?

As a rule, yes. The new inverter is chosen to work with your existing panels; that's what we check in the assessment.
